"Basic Computer
Maintenance"
Basic computer
maintenance is probably one of the most neglected
responsibilities of owning a computer. It’s quite ironic how
little attention is given to implementing preventive
measures and yet when the computer stops working it becomes
the biggest of crisis. What actually is basic computer
maintenance anyway? Let me share an example with you that I
think will explain it best. We bought my wife a Lexus sedan
recently (she deserved it after driving our minivan for 10
years). The Lexus brand is known for quality, comfort, and
reliability. They strongly recommended that we bring the car
in on a set schedule, based on mileage, to have routine
maintenance checks performed. They do this to try and catch
things before they fail, point out areas of concern, and
make adjustments to keep the car running smoothly. Your
computer needs the same type of treatment (thankfully for a
lot less money though), i.e. basic computer maintenance
seeks to repair disk errors, catch physical disk problems
before data loss occurs, recapture lost disk space, clean
dust and hair from fans, etc.
We created this site for
